[April 2020] It is almost a year ago that the resale of a second-hand coal-fuelled 100 MWth steam generator was finalised. stroomsolutions enabled this perfect match and accompanied professionally the entire resale process for both the seller and the buyer.
By the End of November 2018, the potential buyer searched on the stroomsolutions platform and posted his need on behalf of a well-established industrial producer in the Black Sea Region. stroomsolutions succeeded in identifying an almost 100% compatible second-hand boiler manufactured and stationed at a TPP in Western Europe before Christmas in first-class conditions. A subsequent professional valuation confirmed that the boiler could be adapted to use within the required parameters without any further conversion.
Then the deal progressed quickly: In January and February 2019 the technical coordination and a detailed site visit of the existing plant took place, followed by contract negotiations in March and April. Dismantling commenced in June and shipping to the destination country was completed in October. Parallel to the above, the buyer had already erected the required infrastructure at the new location. The rebuilt boiler was ready for test and trials in early March 2019.
Last year’s cross-sectoral sale once again showed that a professional expertise in marketing and procurement is crucial. In addition, flexibility in setting parameters and some patience with regard to the process on the part of the buyer are key to success. Last but not least, the second-hand market deals need a “stroke of luck” too. Only then the resale and/or acquisition of second-hand plant components make/s both economic and ecological sense.
